After completing law school, Don clerked with the Court of Appeal in New Brunswick. After being called to the bar in New Brunswick, he went on to pursue an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge in England. While studying at Cambridge, Don worked as the assistant solicitor to the Bloody Sunday Inquiry in London, England and continued to work in that position after completing his LL.M.

When he finished his work with the Bloody Sunday Inquiry, Don came to Fort McMurray and joined a law firm and within a short period of time, he became a partner. In 2006, he ventured out on his own and started his own practice and later served as a Bencher for the Law Society of Alberta.

Don recently served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and was the Associate Minister of Transparency and Transformation then later served as the Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education.
Don is an active community member and is a Board member with the United Way, and previously served as the President. He also coached youth soccer. Don is also an avid badminton player and enjoys hiking and fly-fishing.
